The developers of free-to-play browser-based MOBA Transformers Universe have announced plans to shutter the game at the end of January, less than a year after it entered beta testing. In fact, the game never left beta — UK-based developer Jagex Games (in partnership with Hasbro) launched a closed beta for Transformers Universe in March that progressed to an open beta in July. Now Jagex and Hasbro are winding things down by refunding all player purchases and shutting down the account creation system, with complete server shutdown scheduled for January 31st, 2015. “This decision comes at an important time for both companies as they both realign their plans and focuses for 2015,” reads a statement posted to the company blog. “We’re hugely disappointed, but the game will be closing over the coming weeks.” Last month, EA made a similar decision to shut down its League of Legends competitor Dawngate after the free-to-play MOBA had been in beta for 18 months.
