CINCINNATI – Senior point guard Cashmere Wright is one steal away from setting a Cincinnati record, capping a career that’s been about revitalizing a storied program.
Wright’s next steal will break David Kennedy’s career record of 189, which has stood for 32 years. His next chance to do it is Friday night at home against No. 15 Georgetown.
Wright values the steals record because it’s a reflection of an individual’s defensive play. Coach Mick Cronin values the way Wright has helped revive a program that fell on hard times after coach Bob Huggins’ ouster. The Bearcats had been ranked until a pair of losses knocked them out of the Top 25 this week.
The Bearcats (19-6, 7-5) are tied for eighth in the Big East after those two losses.
